Quickstart (10 minutes)

Lucien is your AI Chief of Staff: it helps you frame decisions, speed up execution, and turn intent into actions (drafts first, then you approve). This quickstart gets you from “new workspace” → “first useful outcomes” fast.

What you’ll get on day 1

  • A single place to ask for decisions, plans, and drafts
  • Notion support for reading/writing docs (via approval-gated drafts)
  • Slack support for staying in the loop (where connected)
  • A repeatable workflow for: clarify → draft → approve → execute

Prerequisites

  • A Lucien account
  • Access to the workspace where you want Lucien to operate
  • (Recommended) Admin/editor access in Notion for the pages you want Lucien to update

1. Connect your tools (we'll use Notion + Slack for this quickstart)

Connect Notion

  1. Open Lucien → Integrations
  2. Connect Notion
  3. Grant access to the pages/databases Lucien should work in (you can start narrow and expand later by clicking "Update integration")

Connect Slack

  1. Open Lucien → Integrations
  2. Connect Slack
  3. In Slack, invite members with /lucien-invite
  4. By default, Lucien listens passively to conversations in all channels and groups it's added to. Toggle this with /lucien-memory on|off
  5. Tag Lucien (@Lucien) in messages you need it to respond to

Tip: If you’re unsure what to grant, start with a single "Ops" page in Notion and one Slack channel. Expand as Lucien earns your trust.

2. Your first 5 prompts (copy/paste)

Use these to get immediate value.

a. Turn a messy situation into a crisp decision

"I’m deciding between A and B. Ask me the minimum questions needed, then recommend a choice with risks and a rollback plan."

b. Create a weekly plan you can actually execute

"Given my goals this week: (1) _ (2) _, draft a 5-day plan with daily outcomes, time blocks, and the top 3 risks."

c. Draft a Notion update (approval-gated)

"Update my Notion page 'Acme HQ': add a 'This Week' section with priorities, owners, and success criteria."

d. Write an email in your voice

"Draft an email to _ to ask for _. Keep it short, direct, and include 3 time options."

e. Turn notes into an execution checklist

"Convert the notes in the Q2 Brainstorm Notion doc into a checklist with owners, due dates, and dependencies: …"

3. How Lucien “acts” (draft → approve → execute)

Lucien is designed to be safe by default.

  • Drafts first: When a change affects external systems (e.g., Notion updates, emails, etc), Lucien will create a draft action.
  • You review, optionally refine, and then approve: Review in the Actions tab.
  • Much like a competent human CoS, after approval, Lucien executes the task and reverts with a status update

This keeps you in control while still moving fast.

4. A basic operating rhythm

These are foundational examples that can get you started using Lucien. Much more is possible.

Daily

  • "What are my top 3 outcomes today given my calendar and priorities?"
  • "What’s the smallest next step to unblock ___?"

Weekly

  • "Draft my weekly plan and a Friday review template."
  • "Identify the 2 decisions that would make everything else easier."

Monthly

  • "Summarize wins, misses, and update the operating plan for next month."

Best practices (so it works on the first try)

Give Lucien an anchor

Instead of: "Update the doc"
Use: "Update the Notion page 'Weekly Ops': append a section called 'Risks' with 5 bullets."

Ask for the format you want

  • "Use bullets"
  • "Use a table"
  • "Keep it under 150 words"
  • "Include owners + due dates"

Tell Lucien what not to do

  • "Don’t rewrite existing sections"
  • "Don’t change headings"
  • "Only append at the end"

Troubleshooting

"Lucien can’t find my Notion page"

  • Make sure the page is shared with the connected Notion integration
  • Provide the exact page title (or paste the Notion URL)
  • Lucien always tries to autonomously resolve Notion pages (e.g it knows that "update our Notion marketing research doc" refers to the doc titled "Q3 Marketing Research"); but it will ask for clarification where needed

"The draft isn’t what I wanted"

  • Reply with: "Revise the draft: change X, remove Y, keep Z"
  • Lucien can modify the draft before you approve

"I want Lucien to execute immediately"

  • Say explicitly: "Execute/send/apply it now."
  • Otherwise Lucien will default to drafting for approval.
